Zoom Meeting Link / Monthly Lecture

Monthly lectures (topics and/or case study) will be the first OR second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 mountain time. Class is 2+ hours long (6:30 eastern, 5:30 central, 4:30 mountain, 3:30 pacific)

SEPTEMBER MEETING: Tuesday, September 16th at 4:30 pm ZOOM LINK Password: HEALTH

OCTOBER MEETING: October 14th, Tuesday, at 4:30 MT – ZOOM Login Link Passcode: HEALTH

It takes time to look up ingredients in the supplements and evaluate a case study – plan on 3 hours.

Directions: After reading all of the materials and notes think about what could have been done instead.

  1. Are there herbs that you think would have worked just as well or faster or better?
  2. Are there any specific vitamins, minerals, or supplements that could have resulted in a better or faster outcome?
  3. Were there any food recommendations and what foods would you recommend to eat/not to eat?
  4. What additional questions would you have asked for a bigger or clearer picture of their health or lifestyle?

Students will complete or continue 2 case studies with real clients each month. Friends, family… (let a few friends know that you need clients and you should be able to get more than you need – well if it is free or a reduced price).

For each client there should be:

  1. Assessment & Symptom Form:
  2. Your personalized consent/disclaimer/disclosure form.
  3. A separate consent form that allows you to share and discuss the assessment, recommendations, and notes with an instructor at Genesis School of Natural Health. It should note that Genesis will not keep the information (files will be deleted) after your internship grade has been recorded.
  4. Recommendation Sheets/Forms
  5. Notes you took for the client’s file during your visit
  6. Why you recommended specific herbs, foods, supplements, lifestyle changes, etc.
When submitting your homework you will need to:
  1. Take a clear picture of your recommendation sheet – save it as Name of Client – Recommendations
  2. Type your client intake notes and why you are making the specific recommendations and save it as Name of Client – Notes
  3. Sending pictures of the Symptom form is optional (do mention the top ones in your notes so I know why you were making the recommendations).

PATHOLOGY REPORT DIRECTIONS (2 per month)

  • Each report needs to include: Your name and at least one picture of the organ, condition – something relevant to your report. Remember to save the report with Pathology-Your Name
  • You should have a minimum of 5 references. I don’t require a full citation for the reports. If it is a website you may use the full link to the article/information instead of the title, author, etc. For books, a title and author is needed.
  • The report needs to describe the pathology: symptoms, what cause(s) the condition, risk factors for the condition / disorder / disease, surgery, topicals, or drugs commonly prescribed by physicians, possible outcomes, and anything you want to add. the details of this disease.
  • The report needs to include, if different and logical, alternative views about the cause(s) of the condition / disorder / disease. It would ideally include implications from research articles. Implications give us direction when determining a protocol.

Example: I googled “parasites and rheumatoid arthritis” and found: Infection by intestinal protozoa is associated with increased intestinal permeability in patients with RA; thus, infection, co-infection, and abundance of intestinal protozoa should be clinically screened because they could be an associated factor to the clinical variability of the disease. I then googled “bacteria and rheumatoid arthritis” and found: They wanted to see if they could find clear differences in the gut microbiomes between people in these different groups. It turned out that they could. About 75% of people with a new case of RA had one particular bacteria in their gut. It’s called Prevotella copri. and Antibodies to Klebsiella, but not to other bacteria, have been shown to be present in patients with active ankylosing spondylitis (AS) by seven different techniques. Antibodies to Proteus, but not to E. coli or Klebsiella, have been shown to be present in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by three different techniques. It is suggested AS and RA are forms of reactive arthritis, to Klebsiella and Proteus respectively, probably mediated by cross-reactivity to HLA antigens.

To get more specific you would google the specific name of a bacterium, parasite, mycoplasma, virus.. that were implicated in an article. It will lead you to more information but it will also lead you to the specific names of other organisms that are also implicated. This provides a larger picture. For example: Are most or all of the organisms bacteria? If so, are they bacteria commonly associated with the intestines or UTIs or both?

Based on the symptoms, possible cause(s), and any other relevant information, what are some general and specific recommendations you could make for herbs, diet, supplements, lifestyle, etc. Is there a particular organ or system that may need attention first or close to first?

Note: I am not looking for a pretty report as much as information that YOU will find helpful when seeing clients. The internship is about learning how to determine a course of action based on more than a disease name or a few symptoms.

MODALITY REPORT DIRECTIONS  one per month – 16 total

  • Each report needs to include: Your name and at least one picture – something relevant to your report. Remember to save the report with the Modality-Your Name)
  • Write a detailed description of the modality and the benefits.
  • What conditions would indicate that this modality would be especially helpful.
  • List any known contraindications with drugs, illness, age, pregnancy, children etc.
  • You should have a minimum of 5 article references. I don’t require a full citation for the reports. If it is a website you may use the full link to the article/information instead of the title, author, etc. For books, a title and author is needed.

*If there is a modality that you would like to report on and it is not listed, you may skip a modality (or more than one). This option is given because there may be a modality you have no interest in using or have one that you would definitely use and it is not listed.

You will need to set up a student account (or business if applicable) with at least 3 of the following companies:

  1. Systemic Formulas
  2. Doctor’s Research
  3. Energetix
  4. Professional Formulas
  5. DesBio
  6. MarcoPharma

Take advantage of the free webinars and information! Remember that every company is marketing (we are the best) and that if the product seems very expensive consider other options. Example: Vitamin D is cheap! Just because it is in oil so it is more bioavailable does not mean that it is the best. Every fat-soluble vitamin should be taken with food and fats or a fish oil supplement

Business & Client Intake

IBUS1 Business Preparation Assignments

One of your assignments is to Create a Business plan: research companies for online meetings, state laws, cost and availability of office space, drop shipping and inventory companies, marketing possibilities, and how much money you will need to get started and will need monthly – as many details as possible and in an order that results in an action plan. Every project and goal needs action steps.

LECTURE SLIDES: Hydration & Macronutrients

Note: Krill oil was not included on the lecture slides. Krill oil contains DHA and EPA. Krill oil comes from a tiny, shrimp-like marine animal. The difference between fish oil and krill oil is that the DHA and EPA from krill is in the form of a phospholipid (phosphatidylcholine).
