Calendula Salve
by Pamala Wilson
Calendula is good for easing muscle soreness and inflammation. I decided to make my own salve as I work out a lot and can use this often for personal use. I purchased dried calendula at a local herb shop. I used the calendula to make an infused oil that would then become the medicinal component of my salve.
For the infused oil:
- 1 oz. dried calendula
- I cup olive oil
- 1 cup coconut oil
Add these ingredients to a crock pot and heat on low for about three hours.
Next – Let this mixture cool. Strain the oil using cheesecloth so that the marc is caught within the cloth and the oil is deposited into a container. I used a measuring cup. I then tied the cheesecloth at the top so that I could squeeze any leftover oil away from the marc and into the measuring cup. I put the infused oil into a jar for safe keeping. I add the marc to my flower garden for happy vibes.
For the salve:
- 1 cup calendula infused oil
- 5 oz. beeswax
- 2 tbsp raw shea butter
- 20 drops lavender essential oil
Begin by adding oil, beeswax and shea butter into a pan. Heat on low until the beeswax and shea butter are melted. Turn off heat and add lavender oil. Transfer the mixture to a container. Allow it to cool.
Of course, initially the concoction will be a liquid until it completely cools.
The final product!
